We Have Cause to Be Uneasy
Wild Sweet Orange Here’s a band from Birmingham that has one degree of separation from Taylor Hicks .. The band’s guitarist Taylor Shaw has appeared with Taylor in his southern appearances. During the 4th of July, the Boston Phoenix ran a list of best bands, old and new, from each of the fifty states, and Wild Sweet Orange was the best new band from Alabama. Based on the preview, it’s enjoyable alt-rock with a definite southern flavor. (Margaux) Nudge it Up a Notch Steve Cropper & Felix Cavaliere When I saw this title in the new music listings, there were two names that immediately got my notice. Steve Cropper, the guitarist/composer/producer behind most of Otis Redding's records, Booker T. and the MGs, Sam and Dave, The Blues Brothers, and others, and Felix Cavaliere, the unmistakable vocalist/organist of the hit 60's group, The Rascals. On first listen to the Amazon previews, the songs weren’t outstanding, but the familiar sounds of Cropper’s Stax guitar and Cavaliere’s sweet blue-eyed soul tenor can’t go too far wrong. (Margaux) Live Bootleg Series Volume Three [LIVE] Johnny Winter Unfortunately there was no preview listen on Amazon.com, but I figure if they’re releasing Volume 3, then this must be a successful and worthy project from the blues veteran. I also could not tell whether these were recent or vintage recordings, there are only 7 tracks, so they are clearly extended blues jams. (Margaux) |
