Piece of Boston Radio History to Disappear - WBCN
http://www.bostonherald.com/business/med...ion=recent

Quote:In a major shake-up to the local radio landscape, CBS Radio is pulling the plug on legendary Boston rock station WBCN [website]-FM (104.1) and is switching off the music for the first time in its colorful history in favor of sports.

“The Rock of Boston,” which put disc jockeys such as Charles Laquidara and program director Oedipus on the map, will fall silent next month after more than four decades when CBS Radio moves sister music station WBMX-FM (98.5), or “Mix 98.5,” up the dial to 104.1, CBS announced today.

Soul to me is a feeling, a lot of depth and being able to bring to the surface that which is happening inside, to make the picture clear. The song doesn't matter. It's just the emotion, the way it affects other people. - Aretha Franklin

Wow-RIP BCN-reminds me of college. I had the pleasure of waiting on Charles L. one night-he had had a few and was in a really surly mood. He had a bag of Chinese food and threw it across the room and basically threw a tantrum. Class act Roll Eyes but I did like his radio presence...

A sad turn of events.

I didn't grow up around here, so it's not part of MY history, but it's another sign that local music radio, with playlists created by humans, is becoming a fading memory. The comments with the Boston Globe article mostly agreed that BCN hasn't been the great radio station of the past for a long time, but that it was still too bad that one of the better music choices was gone.

and who needs another sports talk station? People say we music fans are obsessed...

If you're looking for a cool rock station to stream online, try this one.

I am so sorry...they are killing our radio stations here too. We had one of the best light-jazz stations Love-94 and over night it turned into a disco-dance station. Our classic rock station in NYC (WCBS-FM) now only plays its classic oldies on line...the regular station is horrible.
