Elwood's Blues...
I was browsing at Barnes & Noble.com one night, and found this interesting book, called "Elwood's Blues: Interviews with the Blues Legends & Stars" by Dan Aykroyd and Ben Manilla.

Most of us know Dan as half of the "Blues Brothers," but apparently, he grew up listening, feeling the music, performing, and especially performing with some of the greatest Blues artists around.

In this book, Dan interviews many legendary Blues artists, such as Luther Allison, Bobby "Blue" Bland, Charles Brown, Ruth Brown, R. L. Burnside, Ray Charles, Johnny Clyde Copeland (father of Shemekia), James Cotton, Bo Diddley, Buddy Guy, John Lee Hooker, B. B. King, Taj Mahal, Brownie McGhee, Little Milton, Charlie Musslewhite, Koko Taylor, Rufus Thomas, and Junior Wells.

Dan interviews some of "Rock's Royalty" as well, such as Steve Tyler, Joe Perry and Tom Hamilton of Aerosmith; Eric Burdon; Robert Plant; Carlos Santana; Bob Weir; Bill Wyman; and ZZ Top.

Furthermore, Dan also includes interviews with people he considers "Keepers of the Flame" which feature such artists as Marcia Ball, John Popper and Chan Kinchla of Blues Traveler, Popa Chubby, Shemekia Copeland, Luther Dickinson, Michael Hill, Rick Holmstrom, Candye Kane ( confused I hope that is not her real name), John Mayall, Keb' Mo', Big Bill Morganfield, Susan Tedeschi, and Johnny Winter.

In addition to all of the interviews already mentioned, Dan includes original transcripts of various episodes of his "House of Blues Radio Hour" which I have not yet gotten to, which are interspersed between the interviews.

I have just started reading this book, but so far, it is quite fascinating!

"'Radio play is a lucky break. You win by building fan support, on the road. Giving value for the money… And they love you because of your music, not your chart success.'" Lefsetz Letter, 11/19/08
